Character
Name: Manwë Súlimo
Canon: Tolkien: The Silmarillion

Pull-point: After he casts Melkor/Morgoth into the Void.

Power opt-in: On his control of birds.

Content Opt out: N/A

Age: Ageless? He is one of the first creations of Eru, so that pretty much makes him ancient.

Gender/Sex: I assume male, but he is one of the Valar, so his gender is pretty...fluid? Thus far he has established himself as male.

Appearance: Like his gender, Manwë can appear in whatever form he pleases. One of his main forms, however, is that of a tall Elven male with long white hair, eyes as blue as the sky and pale skin.

History: As one of Eru's initial creations (he and Melkor are the oldest of the Ainur), Manwë was appointed the Ruler of Arda. He oversaw all attempts to bring order to Arda, but he was unable to stop Melkor's rampages. In fact, it wasn't until the Vala Tulkas arrived to aid his fellow Valar that they had the power to stem Melkor's darkness.

Together, the Valar made a home on Middle Earth for their creations - one that was lit by the two Lamps of the Valar. After Melkor destroyed the Lamps, the Valar were forced to go into hiding on Aman. Yet after the Elves awoke, they found the power and courage to finally approach Melkor and subdue him in the Halls of Mandos.

For three ages, the Elves lived in peace. But Manwë made the mistake of believing that Melkor was truly sorry for his actions and released him from the Halls of Mandos. Once more, Melkor spread his lies and darkness and the Noldor Elves committed an atrocity because of it. Manwë saw no other alternative than to forbid them from joining their brethren and the other Valar. He hid the land of the Valar beyond the Shadowy Seas and the Enchanted Isles so that the Noldor would never be able to find it.

Once Melkor was defeated - a task that was accomplished by the Valar banding together - Manwë tossed him into the Void.

Personality: He is, perhaps, the most innocent (and naive) of all of Eru's creations. Manwë doesn't understand lies or evil intentions thus he has no compass for which to search for them. He takes what he is told at face value, though he has become more wary where Melkor and his followers are concerned. They are amongst the few that actually make him doubt - and that is not an emotion he enjoys entertaining. It is as foreign to him as a bird on the moon, yet it remains there nonetheless and he knows the day will come when he must clash with his brother once more.

Outside of war and strife, however, Manwë is a calm, content being who revels in the happiness of others and sees the Elves, Men and other races as children. (Of course the Elves hold the special title of "his children", but he does truly care for the well-being of all.) He will more often than not show fatherly tendencies towards them - even if they somehow earn his disapproval.

Abilities: (It should be noted that Manwë is not overly fond of (or even interested in) using his powers, but I will state them below regardless:)

→ IMMORTALITY: He doesn't age.

→ IMMUNE TO SICKNESS: There are few who could injure Manwë (coughMelkorcough), but even if he is hurt, he will heal without contracting a sickness or disease.

→ SENSES: Even more so than the Elves, the Valar are blessed with heightened eyesight, hearing, taste and touch.

→ SHAPE-SHIFT: He can choose whatever form serves him best.

→ LANGUAGES: He can speak the tongues of all who inhabit Middle Earth.

→ MUSIC: "When Melkor created the discord in the second Song of the Ainur, Manwë took over leading the song, pondering about airs and winds." (Taken from here.) Therefore Manwë has a strong love for music and its harmonies (wind instruments likely please him very much).

→ POETRY: He enjoys the creations of the Vanyar, so it is likely he too has a knack for rhyming couplets.

→ BIRDS: He has mastery over birds (Eagles in particular) and he uses them often to keep an eye on things and give him information.

→ WIND: His attributes are the air and winds. He can control them for 10 square miles (max) and communicate with the birds that travel on them.

→ ERU: It is said that he knows Eru's mind best.

→ STRENGTH: I imagine he is strong - physically - though not as strong as Melkor. (This too can be toned down for the sake of the game.)

→ TRAVEL: "For Manwë I'd be okay saying around 11 to 13 days worth of foot travel per day, unburdened. (So one day Manwë travels on winds, he goes as far as a normal person goes in 13 days. With a passenger or something heavy, keep it between 6 and 7 days.) His form can change while he's using wind travel. (bird, cloud, or something like that) As an example, Deepwood to Lond Daer is 10 days."

Inventory: → His robes/cloak etc..

→ His sapphires. They are embedded in his staff.

→ And Lord Thorondor (an Eagle) if at all possible:

Animal companion info

Appearance: Thorondor is a giant Eagle with a wingspan of 180 feet. He takes after Golden Eagles in appearance - just much bigger.

Personality: As Manwë's chief Eagle, he is very much like the Vala (though perhaps less naive). Thorondor shows wisdom, courage and kindness as he does Manwë's bidding. He also seems to have a great deal of compassion for those who are hurt or weaker than himself.

Abilities: → He is skilled in rescue missions and combat.

→ He can be exceedingly gentle to those who are injured or scared.

→ He can carry a small group on his back with ease.

→ He can travel over large distances without needing a rest.
